Name up to 5 people you consider mentors in the business.?

Ron Merians – Original owner (1970-1979) of the Joyous Lake , legendary Woodstock club. He brought me in as a 25% partner to help him build and manage it. He could get anyone to play this small 200 seat venue including Muddy Waters, The Police, Patti Smith, Charles Mingus, The Band, Joe Cocker, Johnny Winter, Todd Rundgren…and many, many more. He taught me the value of fitting into an artist’s tour routing to get big names.

Al Cafaro – former CEO of A&M Records. I first met Al when I was PD of WDST and he was a regional A&M promo guy. We stayed in touch as he climbed the corporate ladder and I learned a great deal about the music business from him from the label’s perspective. He always had tremendous respect for the artist.

Bill Harvey – Not in the Music business but a major new media guru. He taught me to look at future new media and technology development as existing in the present and building a business around it now. That way you may be ahead of the curve but you’re perfectly positioned when it reaches critical mass.
